Just to be up to date.(click here)

2Day is my bday so Tomorrow will have everything from match report to player ratings but for now lets take a look at goal.com review.

Ibrahimovic caught on a great game

The match between Getafe and Barcelona started at a slow pace, with neither side able to stamp their authority on the game in the opening few minutes. Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes had a scare on seven minutes, when Puyol played a pass back for Pique, who slipped inside the area, forcing the keeper to leave his post to clear the danger before Soldado could get to the ball.

Getafe were the better side at this time and could have broken the deadlock in the 12th minute, when Albin's left-foot volley from outside the area caromed off the underside of the bar. This might be the 1st goal of the game...

Barcelona tried to respond but they were finding it very hard to create any danger, despite Jeffren's attempts down the flanks.

The home side struck the woodwork for a second time 28 minutes into the game, when a pinpoint cross from Pedro Leon from the right was met by Soldado's overhead kick, which hit the left post.

The Catalan club produced a solid chance for the first time in the match two minutes later through Seydou Keita, who was given far too much room in the middle of the pitch and went for glory from 30 yards out, but his effort went slightly wide of the left post.

Barcelona wasted their best chance on goal in the 43rd minute as Jeffren's good cross from the right found Ibrahimovic, who did well to control the ball and get past the opposition of Rafa but the Swede's low shot was held by Ustari.

The second period began with Barcelona introducing Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta but it was from Xavi's feet that their first chance came from, when the diminutive midfielder fired a long ball from distance that Ustari had to divert over the bar.

Barcelona would find the back of the net on 65 minutes, when Abidal's cross from the left found Ibrahimovic at the near post, and the striker had only to use the tip of his boot to send it past Ustari.

And it would not take long for the treble-winning side to double their lead, as on 79 minutes Daniel Alves connected well with Ibrahimovic, who clipped the ball into the six-yard box for Messi to head home.

Despite their two-goal lead, Barcelona refused to take their foot back off the gas and Ibrahimovic almost scored his second of the game after being put through by Xavi but his shot went straight into the hands of the Getafe keeper.

Itturalde Gonzalez brings an end to Getafe's misery as Barcelona run out 2-0 winners. The first half was largely the story of the home side, but Barca came out like a team possessed following the introduction of Andres Iniesta and especially Lionel Messi. Barca retake top spot while Getafe remain on three points.

Player Ratings

GETAFE (4-4-2)

Ustari: 7.5 – Can’t be blamed for either of the goals and pulled off a couple of choice low saves besides.

Cortes: 5 – After a good start let himself down, and couldn’t deal with the introduction of the substitutes.

Cata Diaz: 6 – Always brave in the clearance but nearly ’sold the jerseys’ with a mis-hit interception, and faded out badly.

Rafa: 5.5 – Good distribution but struggled to close down his man and retain positioning.

Mane: 6.5 – Some excellent attacking play from the former Almeria man.

Pedro Leon: 6.5 – Removed early – had a great first half but tailed off badly after that.

Celestini: 7 – Took a few minutes to get warmed up but was a harrying influence in midfield after that.

Adrian: 5.5 – Disappointing stuff from the youngster, who seemed unsure of his exact role.

Parejo: 5 – A poor afternoon for the ex-Real Madrid man, who struggled to make an impact.

Soldado: 6 – A couple of great half-chances in the second half soon dwindled into frustration.

Albin: 7.0 - How different things might have been if that volley early on was angled a few inches downwards. Energetic as always.

Substitutes

Casquero: 6 – Largely failed to make an impact.

Manu: 6.5

BARCELONA (4-3-3)

Victor Valdes: 7 – Recovered from a real slip-up at the start to end the game in comfortable fashion.

Puyol: 6.5 – Not one of the leading lights as he was played out of position – albeit at right-back, where he traditionally does well – and not his usual attacking self.

Chygrinskiy: 7.5 – After a slow start began to assert himself, and even chipped in with some great attacking play.

Pique: 7.5 – Another near-faultless performance from the youngster, who seldom looked troubled.

Abidal: 8 - Put a leash on Pedro Leon after a while and looked good on the wing as well. Much improved on last season already.

Xavi: 7.5 - A poor first half and an excellent second, Xavi tested Ustari and also was dangerous in the pass.

Yaya Toure: 7 - A very much acceptable performance from the Ivorian, although he could have been better in the tackle.

Keita: 7 - Excellent physically, but his long-range shooting wasn’t up to its usual standard.

Pedro: 6 - Found it difficult to impose himself, although his positioning and first touch are excellent.

Ibrahimovic: 7.5 - A joke of a first half followed up with an excellent showing in the second. Question marks remain over his long-term value, but who wants to argue with a goal a game start?

Jeffren: 7 – A great start down the left, but there was precious little end product to show for his endeavours.

Substitutes

Messi: 8 – Just what the doctor ordered. On came the little Argentine to completely change the game, and score a goal too.

Iniesta: 7 - Somewhat quieter than Messi but still a positive influence.

  2. couldnt agree with the report more. the 1st half, or first 40 minutes, was a nightmare. one of the worst 40 minutes ive seen barca play in a LONG time. the energy levels were pathetic. i was getting very annoyed. jeffren was not impressive, and pedro seems to have gotten too confident. he did way too much with the ball and was very inefficient with it. zlatan was so poor, honestly, i think he was not motivated to play with the likes of pedro/jeffren. his body language was very annoying and i was ready to slander him. lol

the only thing worse than our first half was the stupid REF. QUE PAYASO. SUCH A CLOWN. he looked like one, he acted like one. SO many fouls he called for NOTHING. the slightest contact, free kick. wanted to slap him

BUT, we did get a lot better, and zlatan in particular. his whole attitude changed dramatically and he did some very nice flicks and passes, 2 for iniesta especially. his cross to messi was wordclass, and thats something etoo could not do. that was the first time u saw the difference he brings.

it was a grind to get the win, but we did and thats all that matters.

best player tonight was xavi hands down. he was the only player in the first half who seemed ready to win. his touches were masterclass as usual today. in the 89th minute he did a one time volley pass to keita, was incredible. though keita got so selfish and didnt look for the better option in ibra. i swear keita must have a HUGE goal bonus cause when he feels a slight chance to score, he doesnt look up for shit.

cryginskiy also really delighted me. very confident on the ball and is an excellent distributor with both feet. it was a pricey buy, but really it was the market's fault. i think he was a good buy.

lastly, caceres scored a nice goal for juve on his debut. lol. though the rest of the match he was still a typical south american cowboy, hacking players down and making rash challenges. i hope he matures this year.

  3. I thought Abidal had a great game yesterday, he was clearing alot of high balls and his general play was pretty good. Chygrynskiy looked a little out of place but that can be expected, its his first game for a new club and there is the language barrier but he impressed me alot with his distribution. Everytime he intercepted a ball he found a team mate with his first touch, he seemed very calm and did'nt seem to want to just clear the ball as far as he could like most defenders would do in their first game.
